When shopping for a personal weather station first ask yourself “What am I interested in knowing? What is the temperature inside or outside of my home? What is the humidity level in my kitchen? How windy it is in my backyard? How much rainfall did we get overnight? Or maybe the question is, what is the daily forecast? There are five measureable elements of weather : Temperature, Humidity, Wind, Rain and Barometric Pressure. Knowing which of these elements are important to you will help you determine what personal weather station you need, from the basic temperature unit to the Professional Weather Station.
Which weather station is right for me ?
Home Weather Stations
A simple accurate wireless affordable weather station which includes features such as time, date, temperature and humidity. Typically, lower cost, smaller size and easy to read display. They are used for forecasting your local conditions to better prepare for the day ahead.
Ideal for gardeners, farmers and people who need or enjoy monitoring rain fall. Available as basic rain catching devices or wireless gauges that provide accurate measurements for your desired area. A rain gauge will enable you to track your historical data, review rainfall records and outdoor temperatures.
Personal weather station on your property
Are simple, accurate wireless weather stations, which include features such as date, time, temperature (indoor/outdoor), humidity (indoor/outdoor), Alerts, great accuracy and further transmission range.
Professional Become your own weather professional
These are slightly more complex to set up, yet simple to use. They will provide data with good accuracy and combined with multiple sensors provide an all-round weather tracking experience. Measures temperature, humidity, rain fall, wind speed & direction, barometric pressure and more. There is one weather station (WS1081-V2) that will connect to your PC for storing long term historical data.
Wall mount and Projection Clocks
These are small to large wall mounted and ceiling projection time clocks with dates and some have indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity add-ons.
WIFI Weather Stations
Lacrosse weather stations pull data from Accu Weather and Weather Underground servers. This is a digital worldwide phenomenon that provides you with internet access to remotely read your weather data using a smart phone. Through the Lacrosse app you can enhance your system and add additional sensors, making your smart device the display while setting alerts, track trends and share with family and friends.
Colour LCD weather Stations
Lacrosse Technology is a world leader in colour LCD designs. Many of the professional colour LCD models also have Wi-Fi ability and the ability to add-on extra accessory sensors.
Do I need any accessories?
Accessories for weather stations are sensor or mounting brackets. All accessories are specific to each model of weather station, and apply to mid-range and professional weather stations. Most commonly are rain & wind gauges or additional temperature & humidity sensors.
What features do various weather stations have and our explanation.
Temperature (indoor and outdoor)
Measures the temperature in one or more locations. Additional sensors are required for two or more location readings.
Humidity (indoor and outdoor)
Measures the humidity in one or more locations. Additional sensors are required for two or more location readings. Humidity is sometimes included in temperature sensors.
Measures changes in the air pressure
Measures the wind speed. An additional wind vane/anemometer sensor is required to obtain the wind direction reading. This data is then transmitted to the inside LCD base station.
Rainfall (Rain Gauge)
Measures the rain fall using a toggle mechanism rain gauge. This is an additional sensor that transmits the data to your main indoor base LCD station unit.
The range for the outdoor sensors will transmit/send a signal with the information they collect. The distance for many outdoor sensors to the inside base LCD units varies and can be without obstructions up to 110 metres.
Warnings in sudden change such as temperature, storm, wind, ice and barometric pressure collecting information over given periods from information sent to the unit via the sensors.
Atomic Radio Controlled models
This large area transmission facility is only available in Europe(DCF-77) and North America (NWS). In other geographic areas time and dates can be set manually and receive stand alone data from the unit’s sensors.
